Chapter 4
The next morning when I woke up, Aunt Misty was already making dear meet. Not the best thing to have for breakfast, I thought.
“Thank you,” I said.
“Your welcome. You might want to get use to eating this because this is what I make every chance I get,” Aunt Misty said.
“And what do you do when you don’t get a chance?” I asked.
“I got to town and steal some food, no biggie,” Aunt Misty said.
“Steal?” I said very surprised.
“What else could I do? I can’t starve myself,” she said.
“I guess so. But once you get your memory back you can’t steal anymore,” I said.
“I don’t think I will even remember that I had stolen,” Aunt Misty said, “I forgot your name, what is it again?”
“Kennedy,” I said.
Krissy was still asleep by the bucket of water. Her leash was around her neck and tied to a tree near by.
I sighed.
“Oh, dear, you must be very happy that you sighed,” Aunt Misty said.
“When you sigh it means someone is sad,” I said.
“Oh, well, then, oh, dear, you must be so sad that you sighed,” Aunt Misty, said again but with different words.
“I miss my parents,” I said.
“What happened to them?” Aunt Misty asked.
“Don’t you remember?” I asked as she handed me a piece of meat, “They died not to long ago.”
“No, I don’t remember but you just told me so…ok!” Aunt Misty said.
While I ate I looked at Aunt Misty and wondered how she could have forgotten everything. She didn’t really act normal. She was eating very strangely and just…I have never seen anyone like this, well, maybe an animal, but not a person.
I looked at Krissy, she had gotten up and was begging for food.
“Here ya go, Krissy,” I said as I handed Krissy the rest of m dear meat.
“That names sounds very familiar,” Aunt Misty said.
“It was my mom’s name and is my dog’s name,” I said.
“Oh,” Aunt Misty said and then went back to eating.
“So, what do we have to do today?” I asked trying to make a conversation.
“We need to go out on the highway and search for more food,” Aunt Misty answered.
“Oh, lovely,” I said disappointed.
“And then to the stream and get more water, then to get more fruit,” Any Misty said.
“Oh!” I said getting excited.
“I will go out on the highway because I have done if more often, and then you can get the water and more fruit and then we’ll meet back here once we’re all done,” Aunt Misty said.
Once everyone was done eating, Aunt Misty, me, and Krissy got up, Aunt Misty going on way, and Krissy and I going the other.
Krissy and I traveled to were I had first lived for a very short while and picked up the fruit I had gotten. Went back to the camp and set all of the fruit down next to the water bucket. And then took the water bucket and went back to my camp and filled the bucket with water.
When I went back to the camp I thought, maybe we should make another bucket since Krissy and I are Aunt Misty are here. It would be easier so I wouldn’t have to go back so often.
When Aunt Misty came back I told her my idea.
“No, It took a long time to make a bucket and I don’t want to make another one,” Aunt Misty said.
“I will make it if you want,” I said.
“That’s fine with me but it was very hard,” Aunt Misty said.
I walked over to a tree and peeled some wood of it. I then got one more small piece for the bottom and then some tree pitch and stuck the pieces of wood together.
“There we go,” I said, “It wasn’t that hard.”
“Humph,” Aunt Misty said.
I then went to the stream and filled my water bucket with water. When I came back Aunt Misty was making lunch.
“I hope you like dear meet with fruit,” she said.
“Not on it I hope,” I said.
“Of coarse not!” Aunt Misty said, “With it.”
As she cooked it over the fire I walked Krissy. She needed a nice walked to I took her leash and walked her a little ways. She was happy to walk, I could tell, because she looked very proud of herself.
When I got back Aunt Misty was eating and my dinner was on a piece of wood Aunt Misty used for cooking on.
“There ya go,” Aunt Misty said with food in her mouth.
“What about food for my dog?” I asked.
“Oh, yeah,” Aunt Misty said as she grabbed a small piece of meat off of hers and tossed it to Krissy, “Here ya go, doggy,”
“Thanks,” I said, “For making this,”
“Ya-ha,” She said.
I ate the rest of my meal in peace. I watched Krissy chew on her meal and lick her chops. I watched Aunt Misty do the same, chew on her meal and lick her chops. I think she forgot how to eat, I thought.
After lunch I walked down with Krissy to the beach. It was beautiful, I think Krissy thought so too, she jumped into the water and barked for me to come also. I ran into the water and got half wet. I laughed and then Aunt Misty called me. Krissy and I ran out of the water and toward her voice.
When he got there she was making diner, “Thanks,” I said.
“Here ya go,” she said and handed Krissy and me a piece.
After we ate and I had a mango we all went to bed. I slept ok; it was hard to get a good night sleep on ground. The next morning I had a very sore back.
“My back hurts!” I said.
“You get used to it,” Aunt Misty said.
“Ok,” I said doubtfully.
As I ate a banana for my breakfast I wondered what would happen when Aunt Misty got her memory back. What if I had to tell her about Arthur dieing again? What if she made me go back to the police? What if the police didn’t believe me when I tell them that I didn’t poison Uncle Arthur? What will happen?
I was so bored that day. There is nothing to do with someone who has lost their memory. So I got a stick and taught Krissy how to play fetch. She didn’t do well at first but she got a hang of it.
“Good girl,” I said when she brought the stick back to me.
“What are you doing?” Aunt Misty asked.
“I taught her how to fetch,” I said.
“What is that?” Aunt Misty asked.
“You throw a stick and Krissy will catch it and bring it back to you,” I said.
“No, that can’t happen,” Aunt Misty said.
“No, really, you want to try it?” I asked.
“Sure,” my aunt said.
She cam over and took the stick away from me and threw it. Krissy ran and jumped and caught it in the air.
“Wow! It really does work,” Aunt Misty said as Krissy brought the stick back to her.
“I told you,” I said with a happy smile on my face.
The dog came and knocked my aunt over on to a rock!
“Aunt Misty! Are you all right?” I asked.
“My, Kennedy, haven’t you grown since the last time I saw you! Wait a minute, were are we?” Aunt Misty said.
Chapter 5
“Oh, Aunt Misty! You have your memory back!” I said.
“What do you mean?” asked Aunt Misty.
I sighed. Then I told Aunt Misty everything, everything about my parents, about uncle Arthur, about the police, and her almost dieing, and how she had lost her memory.
“What? My husband died?” she asked after I told her.
“I’m sorry,” I said.
Aunt Misty sighed and sat down, “So you need to talk to the police right?”
“Yes, but I don’t want to! Why would I poison my uncle?” I said shouting.
“I know dear, but you can’t-“ she stopped, “All of the sudden I just had a flashback. I…was…somewhere…in a house…next to a bed…with a needle.”
“What?” I shouted, “What did the bedroom look like?” I asked because I just had a thought, maybe she poisoned Uncle Arthur without even knowing that it was it was uncle Arthur!
“Um…I don’t know. A queen size bed, white quilt, yellow curtains, and in the bed was a young man, about the age of forty-five,” Aunt Misty said.
“That was how old uncle Arthur was!” I said.
Krissy, who was beside me, started barking but I told her to stop.
“Oh, no. The person in the bed looked a lot like Arthur,” Aunt Misty said, “What am I going to do? I killed my own husband without even knowing it?”
“We’re going to get out of this. But I do think…” I sighed, “I do think we should talk to police. Or both of us will end up in jail for the wrong reason.”
“I guess your right,” Aunt Misty said, “Let’s start going.”
We walked and passed the stream and my bed made out of leaves. Then we made it to the woods and kept going. Once we got to the end of the woods Aunt Misty and me sighed.
“Let’s go,” I said.
We walked trying not to notice all of the people gasping and getting their phones out. We headed for the police station trying not to worry.
“Now remember, Kennedy. Whatever happens, I will take you in once we get out of hear,” Aunt Misty said.
“Really?” I asked almost shouting. I was so glad that I could live with her!
“Yes,” Aunt Misty said.
“Oh thank you!” I said as we walked into the police station.
We went up to the front desk and Aunt Misty said, “We need to talk to someone, a police-men please,” I said.
“I am a police-men,” the man behind the front desk said.
“We need to be in privet please,” Aunt Misty said.
“Well, ok. Come with me, but you’re going to have to leave your dog here,” the man said.
I sighed but left Krissy there with someone to watch her.
We went behind the front desk and followed the man into a small room.
“What’s your problem?” the man asked.
“This is going to sound strange but-“ Aunt Misty said but was interrupted.
“Just tell me,” the mad said.
Then Aunt Misty and I told him everything. It was very hard but we did.
“So… you killed you husband with knowing it because you lost your memory, some police men wanted to talk to this young lady because they thought that she killed him because she was living with him because her parent died?” the mad asked.
“Right,” Aunt Misty and I said at the same time.
The man sighed, “I don’t know what to believe. I mean I no they story about you,” and he pointed at Aunt Misty, “But how could you be alive?”
“It’s true. And just remember, I didn’t remember anything,” Aunt Misty said.
“Listen, I know it’s hard to believe, but it’s true. You should just be glad I came back here!” I said.
“I will go talk with a high police man and he will decide what to do, and if you need to stay here we will bring it to a judge, but for tonight you need to stay here,” the man said.
“Oh, thank you,” Aunt Misty said.
We followed him to another room were some people were in, he took a key from a whole bunch of keys and unlocked it, “You’ll be staying here for the night,” he said.
Aunt Misty and I sighed. We really didn’t want this to happen. I stared at the other people in the jail.
“Hello,” I said.
Nobody said anything. I bit my lip and as I did this I sighed. A few hours later the same man came and let us out. We followed him into another small room were another police man was standing.
“So tell me everything,” the man said.
After we said this we did tell him everything just like I had told Aunt Misty everything and just like Aunt Misty and I had told the other police man everything. After we were done the man sighed.
“I don’t want to be mean, because I believe you but. I just don’t know what to do,” the man said.
“I have an idea! How about let us go?” I said.
The man sighed again, “If you aren’t going to be running away from any police men anymore, and you aren’t going to lose your mind and kill someone then…..I will let you go this one time,”
“Really?” I asked.
“Yes, but you have to behave,” the man said.
“We will, thank you so much!” Aunt Misty said.
“But what about this young lady? Her parents died,” the man said.
“I am her aunt, I will take care of her,” Aunt Misty said.
The man smiled, “That’s fine with me,”
Aunt Misty and I followed the man out of the room with a smile on our faces. When we got Krissy from the person I had let take care of her, I thanked him and then my aunt said.
“Thank you so much. But one thing, where will we live?” Aunt Misty asked the man.
“You can live right were your husband lived,” the man said.
“Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!” Aunt Misty and I said.
“Your welcome,” the man said with a smile
*****
As Aunt Misty and me left the police station we still had smiles on our faces. We walked toward Uncle Arthur’s house and we were so happy we could have shouted.
When we got to uncle Arthur’s house we opened the door and I trotted in and laid down on the couch. All my stuff was here and all we had to do was buy some cloths for Aunt Misty. I new life was going to get better.
“Aunt Misty, I have a feeling we will have a fun life that will last forever and forever” I said and Aunt Misty nodded because she new I was right!
Chapter 6
“Aunt Misty, dance like this!” I shouted to aunt Misty.
We were dancing in the living room having a blast. We were going to go for a walk but we decided to just dance and dance and have fun.
“I am to tired! Let’s take a brake,” Aunt Misty said with a smile on her face. I also had one on mine.
We sat down and turned on the TV. We put in the movie called, “ You’ve Got Mail.” That is a great movie for little girls and their moms to watch together, except my aunt ane me watched it.
Krissy was curled up beside me, sleeping soundly.
My aunt and me watched her breath.
“Isn’t she cute?” I asked.
“Yes, she is,” Aunt Misty said, “And you are, too.”
“Thanks, I am glad that you took me in,” I said.
“I am, too,” Aunt Misty said.
As we watched our movie we had smiles on our faces. We had the best time together just like I had with Uncle Arthur. I new that this would be the best life!
“Thank you for everything you have done for me,” I said.
“Your welcome,”
P.S.I am reading, The Diary of A Young Girl, Anne Frank and it's really good!
